Bangladesh Textile Mills Association (BTMA) is the apex body of textile industry which represents Spinning waving and Dying-Printing, Finishing Mills under the private sector of the country.
At present the number of member mills under BTMA is 1800 where in 515 are Spinning Mills. The investment of this sector is around 16 Billion USD. The Mills under BTMA cater the Yarn and Fabric requirement of the readymade Garment Industry and the domestic demand as well. The main raw material of the above industries are Raw Cotton, Polyester and Viscos Staple fibre and other man-made fibres, Yarn and fabrics. I am working with BTMA since its inception that is from 1983.
In August 1983 I was appointed as Assistant Secretary wherein my main responsibility was to maintain liason with the members of BTMA and collect information relating to industry situation and share it to concerned authority.
On the basis of the information received/collected I had to prepare report which was ultimately placed before the Board of Directors for their action.
Thereafter, my position was upgraded in 1996 as Deputy Secretary wherein I have to maintain liason with the ministries concerned particularly textiles and Ministry of Finance with a view to assist them to make a textile friendly policy.
In 2004, I was promoted as Secretary of the association. Mostly I had to prepare the policy papers and others support to the members of BTMA relating to enjoy the GSP and incentives and also provide assistance to the BTMA Board as an when required.
In the year 2020, my position was further upgraded and I have been given the responsibility of Additional Director and CEO of the Association. As a CEO, my main responsibility is to prepare policy paper, organize Board of Directors meeting, seminar, workshop and attend meetings as directed by the authority concern.
More so, I have to look after the research activity of BTMA and assist the BTMA Research Team to publish BTMA News Letter, Annual Report and Magazine relating to primary textile industry which has a great demand locally and internationally. In a nutshell, almost the responsibility of the association lies with the additional Director and CEO.
Upon nomination from BTMA, I participated the Advanced Course of Organizational Development (ACOD) which is a training program for the skill development of the mid level officers of the Government held at Public Administration Training Center (PATC), Savar, Dhaka in 1985, only the private sector represented.
I also served at the Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI) as Assistant Secretary and continued there up to July 1983. FBCCI is the apex body of all chambers and trade associations of Bangladesh.
Upon invitation in 2002 of Cotton Council International(CCI), USA I visited United States of America as a member of the Executive Delegation to see the activities of the CCI.
I have participated a training program on Human Resource Development in Japan, 2003.
Participating various workshops, seminars and fairs locally and internationally related with customs, tariff, bonded ware house, and cotton issues. As a representative of BTMA. Besides this, I have also visited number of countries for various purposes.
